[1] [noun] A wide street. *Joruri, Honcho Sangokushi (1719), vol. 1: "Yorinin leaves the wide Hirokoji road" [2][1] A common name for the main street that runs north to south through Ueno, Taito Ward, Tokyo, and the surrounding area. It was created after the Great Fire of Meireki ( 1657 ) in the early Edo period by widening the street that runs south from the Kuromon Gate of Kan'ei-ji Temple. A busy shopping district near Ueno Station and Ueno Park. Ueno Hirokoji. Shitaya Hirokoji. [2] A main street at the west end of Ryogoku Bridge in Chuo Ward, Tokyo. Ryogoku Hirokoji. *Kakushihon Furai Rokubushu (1780), Hohiron: "If you go right from Yokoyama-cho without crossing Hirokoji Bridge at Ryogoku Bridge" [3] A common name for the main street that runs east to west through Naka Ward, Nagoya City, Aichi Prefecture, and the surrounding area. It was expanded after the Manji Fire ( 1660 ) in the early Edo period, and is currently home to many businesses and banks.
