A village in Kita-Uonuma District, southern Niigata Prefecture. Population 9,287 (1995). The Aburuma River, a tributary of the Uono River, flows south through the center, and settlements are distributed on the river terraces. In 1955, Hirose Village on the east bank and Yabugami Village on the west bank were merged to form Hirogami Village. The main settlements are Wada and Namiyanagi, near Hirose Station on the Tadami Line, and branch off from National Route 352, which leads to Rokujirigoe (National Route 252) and Yamakoshi Village. It is the center of the Aburuma River basin, formerly known as Hirose-go, but it is also one of the snowiest areas in the country, and the main industry, agriculture, is very small on average per household, with many migrant workers working away from home.
