Books of Enoch

One of the pseudepigrapha of the Old Testament. An Ethiopic translation still exists. The Book of Enoch was written around the 2nd century BCE and is a collection of many documents, the contents of which are apocalyptic texts in the form of revelations to Enoch. It appears to have been widely read and was highly regarded by the Church Fathers. The Ethiopic translation is generally called the First Book of Enoch, to distinguish it from the Slavic translation, Second Book of Enoch. The two books deal with the same subject, but there are significant differences in content.

旧約聖書偽典の一つ。エチオピア語訳が現存。『エノク書』は前2世紀頃の作で多くの文書の集成であり，内容はエノクへの啓示という形をとる黙示文書である。これは広く読まれたらしく，教父たちの評価も高かった。エチオピア語訳は一般に『第1エノク書』と呼ばれ，スラブ語訳の『第2エノク書』と区別される。両書は同一の主題を扱っているが，内容には大きな違いがある。
