A throw-away type water temperature vertical distribution measuring device. A thermistor is attached to the tip of a projectile-shaped probe, and a signal is sent to the ship via a thin enameled wire for recording. As the probe falls, the spool wire on the probe side unwinds, and as the ship moves, the spool wire on the launcher side unwinds, leaving the middle wire stationary and thin but not cut during measurement. The probe falls at an almost constant speed, so the change in the signal over time directly indicates the vertical distribution of water temperature. (Nagata)

投げ捨て式の水温の鉛直分布測定装置。弾体型のプローブの先にサーミスターをつけ、信号を細いエナメル線で船上に送り記録する。落下にともないプローブ側の糸巻の導線が、船の動きにともないランチャー側の糸巻の導線が解かれて、中間の導線は静止の状態にあり細くても測定中は切れない。プローブはほぼ等速で落下するので、信号の時間変化がそのまま水温の鉛直分布を示す。（永田）
