The most influential of these was the Russian National Union (Soyuz russkogo naroda), which was formed in October 1905. With the covert support of government officials, it promoted order, peace, and loyalty to the Tsar, and published newspapers and pamphlets attacking the intelligentsia and the Jews. It had branches throughout Russia, but did not have a large number of members.
