Pyrazine

1,4-diazabenzene. C 4 H 4 N 2 (80.09). Also called palladium. It is obtained by oxidative self-condensation of aminoacetaldehyde with mercuric chloride (II) and sodium hydroxide. It is a colorless crystal with a heliotrope-like odor. Melting point 57 °C, boiling point 116 °C. 1.031. 1.4953. Soluble in water, ethanol, and ether. It is sublimable and can be steam distilled. It has aromatic and tertiary amine properties. It can be reduced to piperazine. [CAS 290-37-9]
