A city in the Punjab province in eastern Pakistan. Located on the Sutlej River. It has long been a key trading centre, and was the capital of the princely state of the same name from the British colonial period until independence in 1954. The prince's luxurious palace remains in the southwestern suburbs of the city. A distribution centre for wheat, rice and other products. Ceramics production is thriving. Bahawalpur.
