Spanish playwright. One of the leading writers of neoclassicism in Spain, which was under French influence. A typical pro-French writer, he was appointed librarian at the Royal Library by King Joseph Bonaparte of Spain, but fled to France after the French army was defeated and died in Paris. He was the first to introduce Shakespeare and Molière to Spain and translate them. His most famous work is Les Demoiselles d'Hiver (1805), a play that strictly adheres to the law of the three unities. Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
