[Died] May 6, 1866. British philosopher from Cambridge. Professor at Cambridge University in 1828. Known for his research on the history of science, philosophy of science, and induction, he influenced J. S. Mill and others. His major works are History of the Inductive Sciences (3 volumes, 1837) and Philosophy of the Inductive Sciences (40).
