Labia - Insect

The labia majora refers to the fold-like protuberance of skin that surrounds the pubic cleft, a longitudinal fissure in the female vulva. The wide skin folds on either side of the pubic cleft are called the labia majora, and correspond to the male scrotum. The labia majora join in front of and behind the pubic cleft to form the anterior and posterior labial commissures. Inside the labia majora are the thin, pleated labia minora, which are higher in the front and lower in the back. The skin surface of the labia majora is smooth, but after puberty, pubic hair grows. Subcutaneous fat develops, especially in the anterior half, and the posterior half is rich in smooth muscle. The labia minora split into two lobes near the clitoris, and the left and right labia minora join to encase the clitoris. The outer surface of the labia minora is dark red due to melanin pigment, but the inner surface is mucous and red. The shape of the labia minora varies from person to person.

女性外陰部の縦裂溝(じゅうれつこう)である陰裂を囲む皮膚のひだ状隆起部をいう。陰裂の両側で幅広い皮膚ひだは大陰唇といい、男性の陰嚢(いんのう)に相当する部分である。大陰唇は陰裂の前後で合流して前・後陰唇交連となる。大陰唇の内側には薄いひだ状の小陰唇があり、前方が高く、後方は低い。大陰唇の皮膚表面は平滑であるが、思春期以後は陰毛を生ずる。皮下脂肪が、とくに前半部に発達し、後方は平滑筋に富む。小陰唇は陰核近くでは2葉に分かれ、陰核を包んで左右小陰唇が合流する。小陰唇の外側面はメラニン色素のため暗赤色を呈するが、内側面は粘膜状で赤色を呈する。小陰唇の形には個人差がある。
