Front side - Omotekata

A theater term. These people work on the front side of the stage curtain, mainly in charge of the management of the show. In Kabuki, the 'Omotekata' included the zamoto (theater head), kinshu, chomoto, okuyaku (inner role), ofuda (who handled all the show's financial affairs), gatekeeper, tomeba (guard), sajiki (box guard), hinawa (rope) seller, and hanjo (half-tatami mat) seller. Since the Meiji period, as theater structures and show business systems have changed, these titles have changed and some roles have disappeared, but they are still used today as the counterpart of 'Urakata'.

劇場用語。舞台の引幕(ひきまく)を境として、それよりも表の方に属する仕事に携わる人々で、主として興行経営面を担当する。歌舞伎(かぶき)では、座元(ざもと)（太夫元(たゆうもと)）、金主(きんしゅ)、帳元(ちょうもと)、奥役(おくやく)、大札(おおふだ)（興行の出納いっさいを扱った）、木戸番、留場(とめば)、桟敷(さじき)番、火縄(ひなわ)売、半畳(はんじょう)売などが「表方」に属した。明治以後、劇場機構や興行制度が変革されたため、これらの称呼には変化が生じ、なくなってしまった役もあるが、「裏方」に対応するものとして、現在も行われている。
