The museum attached to the Louvre is officially called the Jeu de Paume. Founded in 1862, it housed foreign works from the Luxembourg Museum from 1920 onwards, but in 1947 was reborn as a museum of impressionist and related art. It was closed for a time when the collection was transferred to the Musée d'Orsay, but was renovated and reopened as the Jeu de Paume National Gallery in 1991. It holds special exhibitions of contemporary art. Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
