Born November 6, 1760. Fourth son of Hitotsubashi Munetada. Grandson of Tokugawa Yoshimune. Succeeded as head of the family in 1768. As he was the biological father of the 11th shogun, Tokugawa Ienari, Ienari wanted to welcome Harumori as his taiko, but due to opposition from the senior councilor Matsudaira Sadanobu, this did not come to fruition.
