Hida Highlands

Japanese:
Hida Highlands
This mountain range extends from the west of the Hida Mountains (Northern Alps) to the north of Gifu Prefecture and the south of Toyama Prefecture. It is bounded in the west by the Ryohaku Mountains, and most of it is the basin of the Miyagawa River and Takahara River, which are the upper reaches of the Jinzu River, and the Shogawa River, while in the south it includes the upper reaches of the Hida River (Masuda River), which flows south and empties into the Kiso River. Although it is called a highland, it is a mid-mountain, early mature mountain range with an elevation of 1000 to 1500 meters, where the so-called Hida metamorphic rocks, such as gneiss and quartz porphyry, are widely exposed, and are accompanied by Palaeozoic and Mesozoic strata. There are many flat-topped peaks in the highland, which are thought to be relics of uplifted peneplains, and three levels can be recognized: 1500m, 1300m, and 1100m.
