Vaiyākaraṇa (English spelling)

…A major Indian school of grammar and linguistic philosophy. In Sanskrit it is called Vaiyākaraṇa. Grammar has been emphasized as a branch of hermeneutics of the Vedic scriptures since ancient times in India, and it was established as one of the six Vedic auxiliary sciences (Bedānga).
