Hida County Magistrate - Hidagundai

Japanese: 飛驒郡代 - ひだぐんだい

During the Edo period, this was one of the local officials who oversaw territories directly controlled by the shogunate. Initially, it was the Hida magistrate. It had jurisdiction over the whole of Hida Province and parts of Mino, Echizen, and Kaga. In 1692 (Genroku 5), the shogunate transferred the lord of Takayama Domain, Kanamori, to Kaminoyama in Dewa Province, and directly controlled the entire Hida Province, which had abundant forest and mineral resources. It established a jin'ya in Takayama and began to rule the province as a magistrate. The first three magistrates were the Ina clan, who were Kanto gundai, and the fourth magistrate, Moriyama Sanemichi, took on the role full-time. From 1738 (Genbun 3) under the seventh magistrate, Hasegawa Tadataka, they were stationed in Takayama all the time. In 1777 (An'ei 6), during the reign of the 12th magistrate, Ohara Tsugumasa, he was promoted to Hui gundai for his achievements in the land survey, and he continued to do so until the end of the Edo period.

江戸時代，幕府直轄領を管掌した地方官の一つ。はじめ飛驒代官。飛驒国全体と美濃，越前，加賀の一部を管轄した。1692年(元禄5)幕府は高山藩主金森氏を出羽上山に移封し，豊富な山林･鉱山資源を有する飛驒一国を直轄化して，高山に陣屋を置き代官支配を開始した。初代から3代までの代官は関東郡代伊奈氏が兼任，4代森山実道から専任となる。7代長谷川忠崇の1738年(元文3)以降，常時高山に在陣となった。77年(安永6)12代大原紹正（つぐまさ）のとき，打出し検地の功により布衣郡代に昇進，以後幕末に至る。
