Also known as bee-shrub. A deciduous shrub of the Malvaceae family native to East Asia. It is cultivated as a garden tree or hedge. It grows upright and branches well, with grayish-white bark and ovate leaves that are often divided into three parts and have irregular blunt sawtooth edges. The flowers that grow in the leaf axils from August to September have five petals, are 5 to 6 cm in diameter, and wilt within a day. Flowers come in white, crimson purple, and red at the bottom (Soutan), and there are many horticultural varieties with double flowers. Dried buds of the white-flowered variety are used as the Chinese herbal medicine Mokukinka, which is used to treat gastroenteritis. It grows well by cuttings. →Related topics Hibiscus | Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
