Abbreviation: NCBWA. A nationalist organization founded beyond the boundaries of the British West African colonies by the initiative of JECasely Hayford (1866-1930), a Gold Coast (now Ghana) journalist and lawyer. The first conference was held in Accra in March 1920, bringing together representatives from the four British West African colonies of Gambia, Gold Coast, Nigeria, and Sierra Leone. It declined with Hayford's death in 1930, but had a major impact on the nationalist movement in West Africa that followed. Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
