Hizen [town] - Hizen

Japanese: 肥前[町] - ひぜん

A former town in Higashi Matsuura County in the northwest of Saga Prefecture. Occupying a sub-peninsula of the Higashi Matsuura Peninsula, it is located on a basalt plateau called Uwaba and is famous for its lily roots and tobacco. Mandarin orange cultivation and dairy cow breeding are thriving. Fishing for horse mackerel, sea bream, squid, and pearl farming are also carried out. In January 2005, it was incorporated into Karatsu City along with Hamatama Town, Iki Town, Ochi Town, Chinzei Town, Yobuko Town, and Kitahata Village in Higashi Matsuura County. 46.64 ^km2 . 9,461 people (2003).
