A city in the southeastern part of Okayama Prefecture. Wake District's Bizen Town and Mitsuishi Town merged to form a city in 1971. The former Bizen Town area is known for its firebricks, but production has been declining in recent years, and efforts are being made to switch to fine ceramics and other products. Katakami, the center of the city, developed as a port town and a post town on the Sanyo Road, and is served by the Sanyo Main Line, Ako Line, and Sanyo Expressway. Ibe is famous for Bizen ware. It is home to the Okayama Domain's Shizutani School (a special historic site) and the remains of the Ibe Minamidai Kiln (historic site). In March 2005, Wake District's Hinase Town and Yoshinaga Town were incorporated. 258.17 km2 . Population: 37,839 (2010). Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
