Daily money shop - Hizeniya
Like the dogura, it was a financial institution in the Middle Ages, but its users were smaller than those of the dogura. During the Muromachi period, there were 40 dogura in Kitano, Kyoto. Liquor store There was one daily money shop for every 1000 shops. The Muromachi Shogunate Law states that all businesses within and outside Kyoto such as sake shops, earthen storehouses, and miso shops were required to pay taxes, except for those selling sake (ukezake), miso, and daily money shops, so it is clear that daily money shops were exempt from taxes (public duties). Therefore, after the Onin War, it is said that an increasing number of sake shops and earthen storehouses became vassals of powerful families in order to avoid paying taxes, or operated under the guise of selling sake or miso, secretly taking pawned goods, and operating their businesses.
