Japanese: 梅染 - うめぞめ

〘Noun〙① Dyed with Umeyasu tannins . Those dyed two or three times are called Akaume, and those dyed many times and darkened are called Kuroume. This seems to have been around since the Muromachi period, and alum, lye, iron oxide, lime, etc. are used as mordants to obtain various shades of brown. ※Mansai Junko Diary - January 7, 1431 ( Eikyo 3) "Yotsuji Saisho Nakano Shorai presents a layer of Ume-zome"② = Ume-gasane (plum- weave)

〘名〙① 梅谷渋(うめやしぶ)で染めたもの。二、三回染めたものを赤梅、たびたび染めて黒ずんでいるのを黒梅という。室町頃から行なわれたものらしく媒染剤にはミョウバン、灰汁、鉄漿(てっしょう)、石灰などが用いられ茶系統の濃淡種々の色相が得られる。※満済准后日記‐永享三年（1431）正月七日「四辻宰相中将来、梅染一重献之」② ＝うめがさね（梅襲）
