Born in Kyoto. A pupil of Yasumura Kengyo. Became a Kengyo in 1801. Together with his pupil Yaezaki Kengyo and others, he composed koto melodies such as "Sato no Akatsuki" (Sato no Akatsuki), "Sue no Chigi" (Sue no Chigi), and "Midnight Moon" to be performed with existing jiuta shamisen pieces, and also worked to popularize koto kumiuta (group songs for koto).
