Japanese: おおかみ座(狼座) - おおかみざ（英語表記）Lupus

Abbreviation: Lus. A small constellation in the southern sky. The eastern part of the broad constellation Centaurus was made into an independent constellation by Ptolemy at the end of the Greek era. Alpha is magnitude 2.9, spectral type B2, and 820 light years away. Beta is magnitude 2.8, spectral type B3, and 270 light years away. Gamma is a double star of magnitude 3.6 and 3.7, but they are only 0.1" apart. There are many double stars and star clusters, but they are all dark. Its approximate position is right ascension 15h0m, declination -40°, and it reaches its culmination at 8pm in the early July. [Ishida Goro]
