Japanese: 原町[市] - はらまち

An old city in the northern part of Hamadori, Fukushima Prefecture. It was incorporated as a city in 1954. Its central town, Haramachi, is located in the center of the Soma region and developed as a post station on the Rikuzenhama Kaido road, and the Joban Line runs through it. The main industry is agriculture, such as rice and tobacco, but the scale of operations is small. Industries such as electrical equipment, general machinery, and papermaking are carried out, and efforts are being made to attract more businesses. Autumn salmon fishing takes place in the Nitta River. Zelkova crafts are a specialty, and the Nomaoi festival is famous. In January 2006, it merged with Kashima Town and Odaka Town in Soma County to become a city, forming Minamisoma City. Area: 198.49 ^km2 . Population: 48,048 (2003).
