A nude statue of a Paleolithic woman. It was discovered by chance in 1909 in Willendorf (→Willendorf ruins) in Austria during railway construction. The breasts, abdomen, buttocks, and crotch are extremely exaggerated, and it is thought to be an object of magical or primitive worship symbolizing reproduction and childbirth. It was created during the Aurignacian culture. Limestone, 11 cm high. In the collection of the Natural History Museum in Vienna.
