Proteins contained in the cells of microorganisms. They are mainly dried as is and used as feed or food, but they can also be crushed to extract the protein and use it as a food ingredient. Since single-celled microorganisms such as yeast and bacteria are mainly used, they are often called single cell proteins (SCP). They are also called fermented proteins, and those produced from petroleum-based raw materials such as normal paraffin have also been called petroleum proteins.
