A town in Hayami County located in the northeastern part of Oita Prefecture, on the northern shore of Beppu Bay. Hinode, located in the center and served by the Nippō Main Line and the Oita Airport Road, is a small castle town, while Toyooka in the west flourished as a port town during the feudal era. The town produces rice, mandarin oranges and other fruits, and vegetables. White-spotted flounder is a local specialty. The Sozudai ruins are located here. Area: 73.32 km2 . 大分県北東部，別府湾の北岸に位置する速見郡の町。日豊本線，大分空港道路が通じる中心の日出は小城下町，西部の豊岡は藩政時代港町として栄えた。米，ミカンなどの果樹，野菜を産する。シロシタガレイは名産。早水台(そうずだい)遺跡がある。73.32km2。２万8221人（2010）。
