...The heartwood is yellowish and has a potato-like smell. In Japan, it is also called Beihiba. The cones ripen in the second year, and it may produce natural intergeneric hybrids with the Monterey cypress, Cupressus macrocarpa Gord. The white cedar, Chamaecyparis thyoides BSP, grows to a height of 25 m in the swamps and wetlands of eastern North America.
