〘Noun〙 ("In" means a sign or seal of approval, and "ka" means permission)① (━suru) A Buddhist term. A master monk certifies and approves that a disciple has attained enlightenment. ※Shobogenzo (1231-53) Tsugisho "Who could certify that a disciple is the most honorable and unsurpassed, if not a Buddha?" ※Taiheiki (late 14th century) verse 12 "Obaisho Osho (omitted) wrote about the splendor of mountain dwelling and received the Inca seal of approval" [Vimalakirti Sutra - Part 1]② In martial arts, performing arts, etc., a master certifies that a disciple has acquired the secret techniques. Also, a certificate or license to do so. ※Gononkyokujojo (c. 1429-41) "Once I have been granted a name, have passed the path, and have obtained the approval of a master , I too can become a master." ※Joruri, Keisei Hangonko (c. 1708) Part 1 "I have been given the pen of Inka, who said that from today you should be named Tosa no Mitsusumi."
