An island in the northwest of the Republic of Estonia. It is also called Dago Island. Together with the island of Saaremaa to the south, it separates the Baltic Sea from the Gulf of Riga. Its area is 965 km2. Its highest point is 54 m. The entire island is made of limestone, topped by a moraine from the glacial period. There are many pine forests, and the rest is pastureland and farmland. Its main industries are livestock farming and fishing. Kjadrola on the north coast is the main port.
