Kernite

It is one of the main components of borate mineral aggregates that develop in special sedimentary rocks. It is native to the Kramer region of Kern County, California, USA. Here, along with borax, it is found in layers in clayey mudstone as megacrystals several tens of centimeters in diameter. Boron is thought to have been supplied from hot springs in geological times. It was named after its place of origin.

特殊な堆積(たいせき)岩中に発達するホウ酸塩鉱物の集合体中の主成分鉱物の一つ。アメリカのカリフォルニア州カーンKern郡クレーマーKramer地方原産。ここでは、ホウ砂(しゃ)などとともに、粘土質泥岩中に鉱層をなす、径数十センチメートルに及ぶ巨晶を産する。ホウ素は地質時代の温泉から供給されたものと考えられている。原産地にちなんで命名された。
