Japanese: 川西[町] - かわにし

An old town in Nakauonuma District, southern Niigata Prefecture. Occupying the mountainous region west of the midstream of the Shinano River, it is an area of heavy snowfall, but in addition to rice, tobacco leaves and vegetables are cultivated in the Shinano River valley. Senju, the center of the town, was a post station on the old Zenkoji Kaido road and had a thriving horse market. It is home to the JR Senju Power Station and the Hoshina Residence (an important cultural property). In April 2005, it was incorporated into Tokamachi City along with Nakazato Village in Nakauonuma District and Matsushiro Town and Matsunoyama Town in Higashikubiki District. 73.55 ^km2 . Population 8,066 (2003).

A town in Higashiokitama County in southern Yamagata Prefecture. It is located almost in the center of the Yonezawa Basin, west of the Matsukawa River, a tributary of the Mogami River. Komatsu, located along the Yonezaka Line, is the commercial center. Rice farming and livestock farming are the main activities. Manufacturing industries such as sake brewing and lumber are also thriving. The town suffered damage in the Great East Japan Earthquake. 166.60 ^km2 . Population: 17,313 (2010).

A town in Shiki District, Nara Prefecture, in the Nara Basin. It borders Yamatokoriyama City. Tomato and strawberry cultivation is popular. Shell button manufacturing is the main industry. It is on the Kintetsu Kashihara Line. 5.93 ^km2 . 8,653 people (2010).
