A village in Nakaniikawa County, central Toyama Prefecture. Population 1,658 (1995). It is located on the east bank of the downstream Jōganji River, almost in the center of the Toyama Plain. With an area of 3.4 km2, it is the smallest in the prefecture. The settlement is built on a natural levee. Blessed with water resources due to the Shiraiwa River and its tributaries flowing downstream, the area was once a bustling distribution center for goods, with thriving shipping by boat. It used to be a rice monoculture region, but in recent years beef cattle have also been produced. It is on the Toyama Chiho Railway Main Line, and has good transport links to Toyama City, so there are many commuters. [Chiba Tatsuya] Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
