The abbreviation for the British shipping company Peninsular and Oriental Steam Navigation Company. The company has the longest tradition of British shipping and has occupied a leading position in global shipping. It was founded in 1822 by Arthur Anderson and Brodie McGhie Willcox, based on the British trade routes that formed the basis of the shipping industry.
