Born: August 24, 1872, London [Died] May 20, 1956. Rapallo British essayist and caricaturist. He began publishing essays in the Yellow Book while studying at Oxford University. In 1898, he succeeded GB Shaw as drama critic for the Saturday Review. His essays and critiques are full of wit and reflect the fin de siècle dandyism. He produced many parodies of contemporary literary figures, including caricatures such as Rossetti and His Circle (1922), and is also famous for his novel Zuleika Dobson (1911), which satirizes Oxford. He lived on the Italian Riviera for the latter half of his life, except during World War II. He was knighted in 1939.
