Antiproton - Antiproton

An antiparticle of the proton. In other words, it has the exact same mass and charge as a proton, except that its charge sign and magnetic moment are opposite. It is expressed as . Emilio Segrè and Owen Chamberlain created it in 1955 by bombarding a copper target with a 6.5 GeV proton beam from the Bevatron proton synchrotron at the University of California, Berkeley. This was the first case of a new particle being created in an accelerator. For this achievement, Segrè and Chamberlain were awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics (1959). Since then, many antiprotons have been observed in cosmic rays during balloon-based observations aimed at exploring the state of the early universe.

陽子の反粒子．すなわち，荷電の符号と磁気モーメントの向きが逆なだけで，質量，電荷量は陽子とまったく同一である．と表す．Emilio SegrèとOwen Chamberlainが，カリフォルニア大学バークレー校の陽子シンクロトロンBevatronの6.5 GeV 陽子ビームで銅のターゲットを衝撃してつくり出した(1955年)．加速器で新粒子をつくり出した最初のケースである．この功績で，SegrèとChamberlainはノーベル物理学賞を受賞した(1959年)．その後，創生期の宇宙の状態を探ることを目的とする気球観測で，宇宙線中に反陽子が数多く観測されている．
