Body odor

Also known as axillary hyperhidrosis. A disease in which sweat from the armpits gives off a foul odor. The foul odor is caused by abnormal secretions from the apocrine glands (sweat glands) and decomposition products produced by bacteria that grow in the secretions. There is a genetic tendency to have this condition, and it forms part of body odor. 腋臭(えきしゅう)症とも。腋窩(えきか)の汗が悪臭を放つ病気。悪臭の原因はアポクリン腺（汗腺）の分泌異常，および分泌物中に増殖した細菌により生じた分解物質。遺伝傾向があり，体臭の一部をなす。治療は芳香物質でにおいをおさえるほか，制汗，殺菌，脱毛などを行う。
