Manaca raintree

Japanese: バンマツリ（英語表記）manaca raintree

An evergreen shrub of the Solanaceae family. It bears pale purple-blue flowers that are cylindrical and funnel-shaped, flat at the end and divided into five lobes, at the top of its many branches. The flowers fade to white over time, making them beautiful and used as garden trees and potted plants. The name Banmatsuri means Western pine. It is also called Bansokei. It is native to tropical America. The leaves are lanceolate and oblong, dark green on the upper side and paler on the lower side, with thin flesh. They are 2.5 to 4 cm long and grow in pairs. The flowers are rather small but numerous, and may be solitary or twin.

ナス科の常緑低木。多く枝分れした頂部に，筒状漏斗形で先は平開し5片に分かれた淡紫青色の花をつける。花は日を経るに従い色があせて白色に変わり美しいので，庭木や鉢物に使われる。バンマツリの名は西洋のマツリカを意味する。バンソケイともいう。原産地は熱帯アメリカ。葉は披針状長楕円形で，葉の表面は暗緑色をなし，裏面は色は淡く，肉質は薄い。長さ2.5～4cmで，対生してつく。花はやや小さいが多数つき，単生または双生する。
