Rock beetle
An evergreen small shrub of the Ericaceae family. It grows on rocky areas in the alpine zones of central Honshu and north of Hokkaido, and is also found in the Kuril Islands and Sakhalin. The stems are woody and branch out. The leaves are small and scale-like, growing densely like strings. In July and August, 2-3 cm long flower stalks emerge from between the leaves, and white, bell-shaped flowers bloom. The corolla is about 8 mm long, with five shallow lobes at the tip. There are 10 stamens.

ツツジ科の常緑小低木。本州中部以北，北海道の高山帯の岩地にはえ，千島，樺太にも分布。茎は木質でよく分枝してはう。葉は小鱗片状になり密生してひも状となる。７〜８月，葉の間から長さ２〜3cmの花柄を出し，白色で鐘形の花をつける。花冠は長さ約8mm，先は浅く５裂。おしべ10個。
