A Confucian scholar in the mid-Edo period. His given name was Juntei, his pen name was Shisho, and his common name was Tokuro. Ranshu was a pen name. Other names included Retsuan and Baio. He was born in the 10th year of the Genroku era as the son of Jiken (1641-1721), a townsman from Osaka and a Neo-Confucian scholar. He studied Neo-Confucianism and National Studies under his father. In 1724 (Kyoho 9), Kaitokudo was founded in Amagasaki-cho, Osaka (Imabashi, Chuo-ku, Osaka City), and when it became an academic institution licensed by the shogunate in 1726, Ranshu was selected as its assistant professor. In 1731, he became a Confucian scholar in the Hirosaki domain, but in 1739 (Genbun 4), he resigned and returned to Osaka, where he returned to his position as assistant professor at Kaitokudo, and later became a professor. He devoted his life to establishing the foundations of Kaitokudo. He died on March 17, 17th year of the Horeki era, at the age of 66. He was buried at the Jodo sect Kankozan Jisso-ji Temple in Uehonmachi, Osaka (Uehonmachi, Tennoji Ward, Osaka City). Ranshu valued Zhu Xi's philosophy but did not adhere to it. He often held his own views and made historical contributions in the field of Japanese classical literature. He was consistently critical of the Sorai school. His works include Kokontsu (1752-1754), Sadenchikugi (Saden's Secrets), Sago (1767), Hibutsuhen (Completed in 1766), and Ranshu Sensei's Posthumous Writings. 江戸中期の儒者。名は純禎、字(あざな)は子祥(ししょう)、通称は藤九郎。蘭洲は号。別名は冽庵(れつあん)、梅塢(ばいお)など。大坂町人で朱子学者であった持軒(じけん)(1641―1721)の子として、元禄(げんろく)10年に生まれる。父について朱子学、国学を学ぶ。1724年(享保9)懐徳堂(かいとくどう)が大坂尼崎(あまがさき)町(大阪市中央区今橋)に創設され、1726年幕府免許の学問所になると、蘭洲はその助教に選ばれた。1731年弘前(ひろさき)藩儒となるが、1739年(元文4)辞任して大坂に帰り、懐徳堂助教に復帰、のち教授。終生、懐徳堂の基盤確立に尽力した。宝暦(ほうれき)12年3月17日没、66歳。大坂上本町(うえほんまち)(大阪市天王寺区上本町)の浄土宗寰公山(かんこうざん)実相寺(じっそうじ)に葬られる。蘭洲は朱子学を重んじたが固執せず、しばしば独自の見解をたて、国学上でも考証的な業績を残した。徂徠(そらい)学派に対しては一貫して批判的態度をとった。著書に『古今通(ここんつう)』(1752〜1754ころ)『左伝蓄疑(さでんちくぎ)』『瑣語(さご)』(1767)『非物篇(へん)』(1766成立)『蘭洲先生遺稿』などがある。 [三宅正彦 2016年5月19日] [参照項目] |出典 小学館 日本大百科全書(ニッポニカ)日本大百科全書(ニッポニカ)について 情報 | 凡例 |
