A cave carved into a sea cliff by the erosive action of waves. It often forms along faults, joints, or bedding. Sea caves are well developed almost at sea level and can be several tens of meters long. When a sea cave connects with a vertical hole, a "blowhole" is formed, from which seawater erupts like a geyser or fountain. When a sea cave rises or sinks, uplifted sea caves and submerged sea caves are formed. [Yoshinori Toyoshima] A group of sea caves created by erosion by the rough waves of the Genkai Sea. The larger sea caves are 3m wide, 3m high, and 100m deep. Genkai Quasi-National Park. Nationally designated natural monument. Karatsu City, Saga Prefecture. © Saga Tourism Federation .
