Crested screamer

A bird of the Anseriformes class, family Pycnonotidae. Of the three species of Pycnonotidae that inhabit South America, this species is found from southern Brazil to Argentina, so it is also known as the southern screamer, and its local name is cha-ja due to its loud cry. It is about 80 centimeters long. Its head is small, but the back of its head has a crest of feathers that stand up, and it has a black band on its neck. The rest of its body is gray-brown, and the area between its beak and eyes and its feet are pink.

鳥綱カモ目サケビドリ科の鳥。南アメリカに生息する3種のサケビドリのうち、ブラジル南部からアルゼンチンに分布する種であるためsouthern screamerの英名もあり、また、大きなその声によって現地名はチャーハーcha-jaという。全長約80センチメートル。頭は小さいが後頭が羽冠状に立ち、頸(くび)に黒帯がある。そのほかは灰褐色で、嘴(くちばし)と目の間および足はピンクである。
