1549‐87 A writer from the mid-Yi Dynasty of Korea. His pen names were Baekho, Gyeonjae, Punggang, and Sochi. He was from Naju. He was known as a brilliant scholar, but he deplored the fierce party strife within the yangban (high-ranking official) society at the time, and resigned from his official position as Chief Minister of Rites and Chief Education Officer, instead spending his time visiting famous mountains and drinking and poetry. His poetry and prose are bold and lively, and there are many anecdotes about his real life as well. For example, on his way to his post as the governor of Heungan, he ignored the dignity of the yangban and paid a pilgrimage to the grave of the famous courtesan Hwang Jin-i, holding a grand memorial service, which led to his dismissal. On his deathbed, he is said to have written, "It is a great regret that I was born in Korea, a country that cannot call itself an empire because of China, so I should not cry even when I die." 1549‐87 朝鮮,李朝中期の文章家。
