An ideological trend in psychiatry that emerged in the 1960s, it refers to a position that denies the traditional psychiatric theory of illness. Representative figures of this argument include T. Szasz from the United States, D. Cooper and RD Laing from the UK, and M. Mannoni from France. Anti-psychiatry criticizes the theory of illness that traditional psychiatry has built up based on physical illnesses, objects to the institution and treatment of the mentally ill based on this theory, and asserts a social (political) conspiracy theory of insanity, but the illness it particularly targets is schizophrenia.
