Also known as All Saints' Day. A Christian holiday to venerate all saints. The important thing about this holiday is not the veneration of individual saints, but the declaration of faith that the gathering of all saints in heaven and the church on earth belong to one Church of God. In the Eastern Church, since the 4th century, it has been customary to celebrate All Martyrs on the first Sunday after Pentecost, but in the Western Church, this day has been the Feast of All Martyrs since Pope Boniface IV converted the Pantheon in Rome into a Christian cathedral on May 13, 609. The custom of celebrating all the dead was introduced from Ireland, but in 837 Pope Gregory IV recognized this custom and designated November 1 as All Saints' Day. Currently, the Catholic Church and the Church of England celebrate All Saints' Day on this day.

諸聖人の祝日ともいう。キリスト教においてすべての聖人を崇敬する祝日。この祝日においては，個々の聖人の崇敬よりも天国のすべての聖人の集いと地上における教会とが一つの神の教会に属するとの信仰の表明が重要である。東方教会では4世紀以来聖霊降臨祭後の最初の日曜日にすべての殉教者を祭る習慣があったが，西方教会ではボニファチウス4世が 609年5月 13日にローマのパンテオンをキリスト教の聖堂にかえて以来，この日を全殉教者の祝日とした。すべての死者を祝う習慣はアイルランドから入ったが，837年グレゴリウス4世はこの習慣を認め，11月1日を万聖節と定めた。現在この日に万聖節を祝うのは，カトリック教会とイギリス国教会である。
