A former town in the Naga district in northern Wakayama Prefecture. The southern part is a grain belt along the Kinokawa River, and carnation cultivation in greenhouses is also popular. The main settlement developed as a strategic location for crossing the Kinokawa River, and the Wakayama Line runs through it. In April 2006, it became an independent city, Iwade City. 38.50 km2 . 和歌山県北部,那賀(なが)郡の旧町。南部は紀ノ川の穀倉地帯で,温室などによるカーネーションの栽培も盛ん。主集落は紀ノ川渡河の要地として発達,和歌山線が通じる。2006年4月,単独市制し岩出市となる。38.50km2。4万9624人(2003)。
