A Berber commander of the army that conquered Andalusia. He served under Musa b. Nuṣayr (640-716/717), governor of the Umayyad province of Ifriqiya, and was head of the garrison at Tangier. In 711, he was appointed commander of a Muslim army of 7,000 soldiers (most of whom were Berbers), and invaded Andalusia and destroyed the Visigothic Kingdom. The following year, he competed with Musa, who set out on the campaign, and conquered Andalusia. Gibraltar is a corrupted version of Jabal al-Ṭāriq, a mountain in Tariq.

アンダルス征服軍の指揮官で，ベルベル人。ウマイヤ朝のイフリーキーヤ州総督ムーサーMūsā b.Nuṣayr(640‐716∥717)に仕え，タンジール駐屯軍の長であったが，711年7000人の兵からなるムスリム軍(その大部分がベルベル人)の指揮官に任命され，アンダルスを侵攻し西ゴート王国を滅ぼした。翌年出征してきたムーサーと競いながら，アンダルスを征服した。ジブラルタルは，ターリクの山Jabal al‐Ṭāriqの転訛した地名である。
