Also called a sogi collar. A collar sewn onto the collar of a kimono undergarment, etc., as a decoration. Originally, collars of the same length as the real collar were called nagaeri (long collars). It was popular during the Edo period, with black collars for men and different collars for women in winter and summer, and for ceremonies, plain white patterned fabric embroidered with gold or silver threads was also used. Later, depending on the season and purpose, black or plain habutae or hachijo-ori fabrics were often used for men's clothing, while crepe, patterned crepe, ro, and patterned ro came to be used for women's clothing. Satin or velvet may also be used as a half-collar for hanten (half-coats), bedding, and kakumaki (covered kimono).
