A plain in the Orléanais region in the southern part of the Paris Basin in north-central France. The cestade plain, where the Beauce limestone from the Paleogene period of the Cenozoic era is exposed, is a flat plateau that slopes gently to the north and separates the Seine River system to the north from the Loire River system to the south. The plateau has an elevation of about 150m, and is bordered by the Perche hills, which are less than 300m above sea level, on the west and Normandy on the east by the Fontainebleau Forest, which connects to the Brie plateau on the east. Its east-west width is about 80km, and its north-south width is about 60km. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
